EDITORIAL

Labrys, estudos feministas/études féministes is an international, multidisciplinary and multilingual magazine which is free online since 2002. Our objective is still the same as it has always been: opening debates, defusing women´s production of knowledge, showing the conditions reserved to women in a patriarchal world and helping in the transformation of these realities, thanks to feminisms dynamic.

Feminisms have developed and splitted into various tracks. But the strive for liberty remains the main foundation of all tendencies.

However, we can observe that most movements and demands are still centered on the body.

It seems as if feminisms could not get over the physical limits of a body where women are rooted, according to the definitions invented and spread by patriarchal ideology.

Identity and sex keep on being the only parameters, the main thrust for feminist debates and mobilizations. If the institution of a free subject is an urgent demand, it actually requires its dissolution, so that the patriarchal binary restraint may be broken. Who am I, who do not accept the definition of a woman that takes “man” as the inevitable referent? A free political subject.

The feminists have visited Foucault´s works which inspired many reflections on this matter, although he spells his texts in the masculine. On the other hand, feminist psychogists are extending the scope of epistemology and the practice of Psychology, so that feminist perception may include sexual construction of the subject and her relation to the world.

As a matter of fact, feminist research are insistently analyzing and proposing new relations, a new space of action where a human being is not determined by the body and the sex, where defining oneself would not be necessary, because what feminisms do really want is the liberty to be, being whatever you are. And this is the case of adventurous women.
